We are now at the heart of the 2008 apple season and time to send you an update on the varieties now available.
This week will be picking Jonathan, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Cameo. Also have Rome, Stayman, Red and Golden Delicious, Mutsu, and York.
Pink Lady, Goldrush and Arkansas Black still are not ripe enough to pick. Will be at least another 2 weeks.
Now have a good supply of late ripening Olympic and Korean Giant Asian Pear Apples and Ya Li Chinese pears. Also some Bartlett type pears.
Raspberry availability: The weather has been very hard on the quality and quantity of our fall bearing Heritage red raspberries. You can still pick. The picking is only fair. SPECIAL NOTICE: a week to 10
days ago, we sold a few quarts of raspberries that were very moldy. If you purchased any of these, please let us know and we will refund your money.
We should be able to pick a few quarts of figs tomorrow. Still have lots of black and bronze muscadines you can pick and we'll be picking.
With the unique hot water apple surface pasteurizing technique used in making cider, we can produce a cider with excellent fresh apple flavor and only a small amount of sediment. Recently a customer expressed concern about the sediment in our cider. Many fresh ciders have a higher level than ours or they have been filtered to remove. The most nutritional parts of an apple are the soluble and insoluble fibers. That is much of what is contained in the sediment. Therefore it is important to shake fresh apple cider well before pouring.
Apple juice, which many of you and your children drink, is strongly filtered and is of little to no nutritive value. It is essentially apple flavored sugar water. Most of it is made from imported concentrate (much from China). Try our cider and you'll taste the difference!
We look forward to seeing you real soon!
