We are now picking lots and lots of Pink Ladies, Fujis, Arkansas Blacks and limited quantities of Goldrush. Goldrush are very difficult to grow here in South Carolina. As the apples mature they are bad to crack horizontally. This season, 30 to 40% cracked. Added to the hail storm damage, our yield will be about a 25% crop.
We still have Granny Smiths, Stayman Winesaps, Romes, Golden Delicious, Jonathans and limited quantities of Mutsus and Jonagolds.
We are making as much fresh apple cider, fresh apple sauce, pasteurized fresh apple slices and apple butter as our production capacity will permit each week. Will continue to do so until Dec. 1.
Will be making regular and no sugar added apple sauce and butter. As well as Goldrush, Stayman Winesap and Pink Lady pasteurized apple slices.
Also still have Honey, plum and blackberry preserves. Will make our last production of Betty's Country Catsup this week.
Encountered another fruit quality problem last week, possibly the week before, this time with Asian pear apples. We've had two Asian pear varieties and one was picked a little too ripe and started to break down internally. If you purchased Asian pears recently and encountered a discoloration internally, please let us know and we will refund your money.
We still have lots of apples to pick and market. The leaf color is fantastic right now! The best in years. Please come and see us real soon. We will be open until at least December 1.
We look forward to seeing you real soon!
