Back on July 15th, I sent an update which started out by saying, "Our fruit trees are smiling because after 2-plus weeks with no rain, it rained."
Boy, was that a short-lived observation. From July 15th until about
6:00 pm last night--21 more days with no rain. The result: Severe drought conditions with some possible serious damage to our remaining apple, peach, nectarine and pear crops.
The peaches and nectarines we have picked recently have been small in size, but very sweet and flavorful!
While we have good crops on several late season varieties, the severe drought conditions have slowed ripening such that until next Wednesday August 12th, we will have essentially no ripe peaches and nectarines to pick.
We are now picking these apple varieties and have available: Ginger Gold, Honeycrisp, Gala, Cortland and McIntosh.
We are also picking the first Asian Pear Apples of the season and have fully ripened delicious Barlett Type Pears for sale.
We now have a good selection of our fancy fresh fruit preserves and sauces, "Old Fashion" Southern Pickled Peaches, Robbie's Salsa, and Canebrake Farm's Acidified Vegetables.
Again, will have no ripe peaches and nectarines available tomorrow, Saturday August 8th. Possibly a few on Sunday and good quantities of peaches by next Wednesday, August 12.
Please visit us at the farm soon!
